Leather red envelopes in natural vegetable-tanned leather, with gold foil stamped illustrations.
A paper envelope is thrown away after Lunar New Year or the wedding. A leather one gets kept, and the patina it picks up makes it more personal every year.
Each envelope is cut from full-grain red English Bridle leather from the Wickett & Craig tannery in Curwensville, PA, stitched with Vinymo thread and closed with a solid brass spring snap. The illustration is stamped in gold foil, one envelope at a time. Edges are creased and polished, not painted, so they won't flake after a few years in a drawer.
A paper envelope usually gets thrown out once the Lunar New Year or the wedding is over. This one doesn't. Vegetable-tanned leather is what makes that worth doing: it picks up a rich patina, so the gift gets more personal every year it's handed on.
These are made to order in our California workshop, so give yourself time before Lunar New Year or a wedding date. Tell us when you need it and we'll confirm the timing before you order. For a custom stamp, or a character we don't offer, write to us at [email protected].
