Tan Leather Watch Bands & Straps

Tan leather watch straps in four Horween leathers: Chromexcel, Cypress, Dublin and Yellowstone. A warm light brown, made to order in California.

Tan sits between natural and brown. It starts where an undyed strap ends up after a year, and keeps going.

Four tans

Tan is dyed, which is what separates it from natural. It starts roughly where an undyed strap ends up after a year, and keeps deepening from there. Tan Chromexcel is the smoothest, with the strongest pull-up. Tan Cypress has a tighter grain and more even color. Tan Dublin is the richest in the hand, an English tan with a polished surface. Tan Yellowstone has a shrunken grain, darker in the valleys than on the tips.

What tan suits

Tan is the classic choice under a vintage or vintage-styled watch, and the color that lifts a black dial without the contrast of white. Warm enough for a gold or bronze case, light enough to work through summer. Cream stitching keeps it casual; a matching tan thread makes it quieter.

Construction and sizing

All four are lined, with a vegetable-tanned backing behind the outer hide. Every strap is cut to order in 12 to 24mm, straight or tapered, and three lengths or a custom one. The sizing guide explains how to measure both.
