Derby is tumbled to bring out the highs and lows in the hide, so every lined strap arrives rugged, distressed, and one of a kind.
Full-grain Horween hides from Chicago, worked with waxes. The color varies a lot across a hide, and the worn-in look gets stronger the longer you wear it.
Derby is a full-grain hide from the Horween tannery in Chicago, IL, infused with a rich blend of waxes and then tumbled until the natural highs and lows of the surface stand apart. That's what makes it a distressed leather rather than a smooth one: the texture isn't printed on, it's the hide's own grain worked until you can see it.
The consequence is that no two straps are alike, and we don't try to make them so. Color varies strongly across a single cut and keeps moving with wear. If you want an even, uniform band, this isn't the leather - Cypress or Chromexcel will suit you better.
Black is a smoky charcoal rather than a flat black, the quietest of the range. Stone moves between taupe and charcoal across one cut, a neutral with all of the texture and none of the louder color. Copper glows a burnished orange-brown. Bronze is a mottled olive-brown, the most dramatic of the five. Cobalt is a deep, weathered blue you won't see on another wrist.
Every Derby strap is lined with vegetable-tanned leather, 2.0 to 2.4mm thick, stitched with Vinymo thread and stained along every edge. A stainless buckle, stainless quick-release spring bars and a matching floating keeper come fitted. Lug widths run 12 to 24mm in three lengths or a custom one, and the sizing guide shows how to measure yours.
Derby also sits in the Vintage Horween series beside Aspen, Yellowstone and Waxed Flesh, if you're comparing high-character leathers rather than colors.
